Teeth whitening is a cosmetic solution to brighten the colour of teeth that have yellowed for various reasons. The tooth whitening process used in aesthetic dentistry is aimed at preventing tooth discolouration, which is one of the most important problems in aesthetic dentistry. The natural colour of the teeth darkens in years by the effect of tea, coffee, smoking and so on. Sometimes, the bleaching method is preferred instead of porcelain etc. At the end of the process, the teeth are brightened to eight to ten tones depending on the condition. In the bleaching process, the colour of the tooth can be bleached to the desired shade by penetrating the enamel and dentin layers of the tooth, removing the discolouration.

There are two types of bleaching:
  • 1- Office Bleaching (Teeth Whitening in Clinic)
  • 2- Home Bleaching (Teeth Whitening at Home)

Office Bleaching
This whitening method is applied by the dentist in the clinic. A beam that accelerates the whitening is applied to the whitening substance. The bleaching gels contain carbonate peroxide generally.

Home Bleaching
By wearing the plates prepared depending on the measurements taken from you, you can do the whitening process at home. You put the recommended amount of bleaching gel on the plaque that will coincide with the front of your teeth and place the plaque in your mouth. You can get the colour you want after an average of 3 to 6 days. However, with the home bleaching method, perfect results may not be obtained for tetracycline stains.

The concentration of the bleaching gel is kept low so that it does not harm your teeth or gums. The active ingredient of the bleaching gel is 10 -16-22% carbonate peroxide (CH4N2O2). Carbonate peroxide is in the form of white crystals. When water comes to contact with these white crystals, hydrogen peroxide, the bleaching agent, is released. Hydrogen peroxide is also the substance that makes the tooth bleaching.
