Tooth whitening is a cosmetic solution applied to lighten the color of teeth that have changed color and yellowed for various reasons, a few personal tones. The tooth whitening process used in aesthetic dentistry is aimed at preventing tooth discoloration, which is one of the most important problems in aesthetic dentistry.
The natural colors of the teeth darken with years and the effect of tea and coffee and smoking. Bleaching method is applied to these teeth instead of porcelain etc. and at the end of this process, the teeth are opened up to eight to ten tones depending on the condition. In the bleaching process, the color of the tooth can be bleached to the desired shade by penetrating the enamel and dentin layers of the tooth, removing the discoloration in these areas.
There are two types of bleaching processes:
  • 1- Office Bleaching (Teeth Whitening in Clinic)
  • 2- Home Bleaching (Teeth Whitening at Home)
Office Bleaching
This whitening method is applied by the dentist in the clinic. A beam that accelerates the whitening is applied on the whitening substance applied to the teeth. The bleaching gels used generally contain carbonit peroxide.
Home Bleaching
By wearing the plates prepared with the measurements taken from you for a few hours a day, you can do the whitening process at home. You put the amount of bleaching gel recommended by your doctor on the part of the plaque that will coincide with the front of your teeth and place the plaque in your mouth. You can get the color you want after an average of 3 to 6 days of use. With the bleaching method made at home, the dark color, especially in dull teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, may not be removed.Or, results may not be obtained for the stains we call tetracycline stains.Because the concentration of the bleaching gel is kept low so that it does not harm your teeth or gums. The active ingredient of the bleaching gel used in home bleaching is 10 -16-22% carbomide peroxide (CH4N2O2).Carbomide peroxide is in the form of white crystals. When water comes into contact with these white crystals, hydrogen peroxide, the bleaching agent, is released. Hydrogen peroxide is also the substance that makes the tooth bleaching process.
